About April Wise, Psy.D

I am a Clinical Psychologist and licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I enjoy working with individuals of all ages, from grade school through seniors as well as couples and families. My experience includes working in hospitals, clinics, and in private practice.

My specialization is in EMDR Therapy, a well-researched approach to working with trauma. EMDR is also effective for treatment of addictive disorders, dissociative, anxiety and panic disorders. EMDR is now recommended as the treatment of choice for PTSD by the American Psychological Association, the Department of Defense, and the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies. My experience as an EMDR instructor, clinician and Consultant spans 22 years. I continue to be amazed at the changes that can occur through this therapy and excited as knowledge evolves and treatment becomes more advanced with that knowledge.

As an educator, I have served as Adjunct Faculty at U.C. Berkeley Extension, CSU East Bay, and JFK University. I have designed and taught courses dealing with the dynamics of addiction, co-occurring disorders, family recovery, and the treatment of trauma. In 2015 I completed research partially funded by the EMDR Research Foundation on the use of addiction and standard protocols for persons with co-occurring disorders.

I conduct on-going supervision and consultation groups for clinicians practicing EMDR, or for those seeking credentialing in EMDR.
